Do You Know What Your School Board Candidates Think About Anything? Maybe it’s Time to Find Out

by Karen Wentworth, League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico
Early voting begins October 18 at expanded voting sites. Absentee voting is already in progress, but there is still so much voters haven’t had a chance to think about. Do you know how you’ll vote on the 11 bond issues the City of Albuquerque has on the ballot? Or what the Albuquerque Public School Board plans to do with the 350 million dollars it is seeking?
You can find the information you need at the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico web site. Our PDFs will tell you about candidates, ballot questions and bond issues in Bernalillo Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia Counties.
Voters in Santa Fe can find more information here. Southern New Mexico voters can find what they need at the League of Women Voters Southern New Mexico website.
This is a general municipal election. You will be voting on Mayors, City Councilors, School Board members, and directors of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Many of these races are districted. That means you may see a different ballot than your neighbors and friends get. It depends on your address.
If you only want to see what will be on your ballot, go to the League’s online software at VOTE411 to enter your address.
This year the League of Women Voters of New Mexico volunteers have asked every candidate in every local race in New Mexico, more than a thousand in all, questions relevant to the position they are seeking.
It’s a complicated world these days and people who volunteer for these difficult jobs are local heroes. They make the hard decisions about garbage rates, police resources, parks, and road construction. They decide which schools get immediate maintenance, and which must wait. Please take a few minutes to read what they have to say.
Election Day is November 4!
