• A column I wish I'd written, in the Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026 Forward: "Why is JD Vance talking about the Antichrist?" by Mira Fox, traces how Vance's evangelical-inflected Catholicism (and his citing of mentor and donor Peter Thiel as an influence) fits into a growing schism between Vatican-aligned Catholics and traditionalists skeptical of the church, with Thiel's own Antichrist musings borrowing from Carl Schmitt, the Nazi jurist who believed keeping the world fragmented would forestall a 'satanic' globalist unification.
• Seven new speakers of different faiths, the first on Sept. 17, are lined up for Gordon Bronitsky's New Mexico Interfaith Dialogue Series, "This Is What I'd Like People to Know About My Faith."
• In Marc Yellin's AbqJew Blog this week he looks at Dara Horn‘s new book, The Final Solution to the Jewish Question: A Love Story for the Living, and points out classes of Jewish interest offered this fall at Oasis in Albuquerque by Rabbi Paul Citrin, Rabbi Jack Shlacter, and Dianne Layden.
• Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival director Marcia Torobin announces a special film showing Sept. 27 in commemoration of October 7th, and their fall season opening Oct. 11.
• Scott Nadler "blatantly" wrote to us (how can you resist?) about the new and highly acclaimed Santa Fe's Jewish Roots Walking Tour, which promises to reveal the city's hidden Jewish history.
• Restless Books publisher and frequent NMJJ contributor Ilan Stavans will be talking about his newest book, A Nation Wrestles With God: American Prophets, Philosophers, and Firebrands, for four sessions in November, during his online Roundtable classes at the 92nd Street Y in NYC.
• Jeanne Simonoff has a new book out, Woman of Valor: A Family Story of Love and Dementia, from Red Hawk Publications.
