NM Jewish Journal Staff Report

Community events commemorating October 7th, 2023 were held throughout New Mexico and the region. They included We Will Dance Again, A Service of Remembrance and Resilience and showings of the film Supernova: The Music Festival Massacre.

In Santa Fe Jewish community observance was held at Temple Beth Shalom with all synagogues in the area, and Communal Remembrance Day at the Jewish Cemetery at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Santa Fe with all the rabbis and cantors leading the service and the Jewish Community Council of Northern New Mexico.

On Oct 7th, the Albuquerque Jewish community gathered at the JCC for We Will Dance Again: A Service of Remembrance and Resilience, where 270 gathered in person and 55 on Zoom for a community commemorative service. This gathering was the result of months of collaborative planning spearheaded by Rabbi Celia Surget, Congregation Albert. Here is the dramatic poster for that event, including the community's sponsors:

In September there were regional showings of the film Supernova: The Music Festival Massacre, which depicted the horrors of the Hamas attacks on innocent, young festival attendees on October 7th, 2023. Supernova was shown in Santa Fe at the New Mexico History Museum, where more than 200 attended and which was briefly interrupted by protestors; in Albuquerque at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque, where 140 in attendance heard guest presenter Ofri Reiner, who had attended that fateful concert and appeared in person to introduce the film and provide witness testimony about her journey through trauma and continued recovery; and, in El Paso, Texas at the Jewish Film Festival to two sold-out showings, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of El Paso and Las Cruces.
